Why This Declaration Matters Today
The "Roman Declaration" is a direct response to the pulse of our planet and a long-overdue answer to a difficult question: where, among all the sustainability reports and climate targets, is the specific responsibility of the communicator defined? While we are participants in numerous global initiatives discussing the green economic transition, a critical gap remains. New regulations regarding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards have brought us closer to practical responsibility, but the communication industry must go beyond simply implementing strategies for others. We must demonstrate our own collective intention to act responsibly as the "heartbeat of change".
As millions of trees witness the circle of human development, our industry must step forward as a guardian of truth in the green economy. We sign this document now to commit ourselves to 15 specific clauses of responsibility—best practice guidelines that call on every professional to differentiate between fact and opinion, speak out against misinformation, and ensure that every strategic plan is data-driven and measurable. By doing so, we ensure that the stories we tell and the strategies we build today do not just "go green" in name, but actively protect the world of tomorrow.
This initiative, born from the World Innovation Change Management Institute, invites global leaders to define a new baseline for integrity. We recognize that the communication industry is immensely powerful, yet we often miss the point of mutual interest. To combat the negative impact of humans on the planet, we must share the burden of responsibility for the consequences of our actions. Together we are stronger, together for the communication industry on Planet Earth. This is our universally recognized duty of care; by standing together, we show our clients, stakeholders, and the world that we are ready to lead the way.
